I haven't hopped on in a few days, and it's pretty important that I remember a few things...
.) Alex is loving "Don't step on the cracks, or you'll break your mother's back.." He understands that Meemom is MY mom, and he's much more concerned with me breaking my mom's back than him breaking MY back! He makes up all sorts of rhymes and riddles to go with this game, and we play it everywhere - including in the supermarket, where there are square-foot tiles, too small for me to successfully maneuver without stepping on any cracks, especially while pushing the shopping cart. Realizing this, Alex has made modifications for the game, including an adaptation in which there are certain COLORS that need to be avoided (there are different color squares, something I wouldn't have noticed if not for this game - for example, along the dairy aisle, there are two rows of blue squares up against the food, whereas the rest is white). My favorite rhyme he's made up for that was, "Step on the blue, you're crocodile stew!". However, stepping on the blue is unavoidable if you want to get dairy, for example milk or cheese, which my family thrives on.. luckily, Alex gives me "super powers" where I can step in the blue for a limited amount of time (which he ferociously counts down out loud for me so that I am aware).
.) We have an older metal swingset in the backyard that was left here from the people that lived here before us, and, like most, if you get the swing going really good, it "bumps" out of the ground (the legs essentially lift up a little bit with each swing). With a big kid like Alex, I was concerned he could have flipped the thing. I purchased a set of "swing set anchors", which are essentially tethers with a cork-screw style anchor that goes into the ground. I had been asking the husband to install them, but he's been so busy, and on Sunday it took him over three hours to install the baby gate upstairs. At any rate, Alex has been wanting to use the swing, and was bugging me to try to install the tethers yesterday. I told him that I wasn't sure how, and that Daddy would probably have to do it, to which he replied, "I think YOU can do it mommy, I have FAITH in you!" .... needless to say, I tried, and succeeded, and he was swinging and saying, "I knew you could do it!" <3
.) Alex's school has an aid who tells native american stories, and the kindergarteners put on a presentation of one of the stories, called "Bear Man and the Ant Lady" - SO cute, I did take a video on my camera, i have to try to upload it to Youtube so I can watch it.
.) I want to freeze Maya where she is.. so curious, so NAUGHTY already it's hilarious, she knows what she's not supposed to have.. she loves paper and plastic, if she finds a tiny piece of something she will look at us out of the corner of her eyes and then crawl away to explore it in private because she knows we will take it from her.. WAY too smart for her own good already, can't wait for the toddler years!!!!!!!!<3
