Alex, Daddy and I talked a lot about the "true" meaning of Easter this year. I really felt that he was ready, and Lord knows he was interested. We found a few different "kids" versions of the story, including the one in his "Bible Adventures!" bible, which, by the way, I'm pretty sure was written *for* him (it's his level, his language, his capability of understanding, the list goes on). He gets it - he REALLY gets it - and he wants to get more - he asks to read his Bible every night. He is on fire - it is a blessing and an inspiration! Today I was upset with him because he snuck his Easter basket upstairs and snuck a bunch of jelly beans (who knows how many). When caught (it didn't take long), I commandeered his basket and put it on a high shelf to be used and eaten under adult supervision. He wasn't that upset by the consequence, and it was eating at me - why wasn't he sad, or more upset? Doesn't he realize that what he did was wrong? When I questioned him about it sometime later (his inability to "let things go" is genetic, I suppose), I realized that he didn't protest because he agreed with the punishment and knew that what he did was wrong. He only really gets 'upset' if he thinks he's being given a consequence unfairly. He also said, "I prayed to God about it and asked Him to help me stop being sneaky" - and well - I couldn't argue with that at ALL.
But, I digress. We spent Easter in Glen Rock and had a blast. Not an Easter will pass where I don't remember the Easters spent in Connecticut with Grandmama and Granddaddy - and, of course, the bunny ice cream cake. But we did have fun in Glen Rock!
